Dynasty Returns - Let's Talk About The Season 3 Premiere
The CW soap-opera returned to screens last Friday and provided many answers to the cliffhangers of the season 2 finale. But it also had audiences asking a lot of questions.
After two bodies were discovered in the Carrington Lake, the episode opened with the billionaire family dealing with this and planning their stories so not to get caught out by the police. Liam (somehow) survived the attack from Adam and was stricken to a hospital bed in a medically-induced coma. Jeff is still "missing" and his mother Dominque soaked up the media attention enthusiastically, opening a segway storyline where she obtained the help of a tabloid reporter to investigate Cristal's family. Poor Culhane is stuck in prison but refuses help from Kirby, which leaves her squatting in her Femperial office since Anders has taken a job with Sam at his new hotel.
And so where does all this lead you ask? Well, the guilt of Trixie's death had a sure effect on Fallon who was going slightly doo-lally seeing Trixie's ghost everywhere she went. Hoping to get rid of her demons, she went to the police and explained how Mac (the other body in the lake) was behind Trixie's murder. The cops seemed to believe Fallon's claim however, as always, nothing goes to plan in the Carrington household. Adam tried to fix the problem by messing around in the morgue, sending Mac's body to be cremated. But this only seemed to make things worse when the police arrived at the mansion to arrest Blake! Liam finally awoke from his hospital slumber, much to Fallon AND Ashley's (Liam's ex-fiance) joy. Joy soon turned to anguish when it was revealed that Liam has amnesia and doesn't remember Fallon, with Ashley swooping in to take on the role as "current" girlfriend (that bitch)!
In terms of a season premiere, this episode wasn't half-bad. Each character was given significant airtime and plenty of drama. Plus the sets and costumes were just as glamorous as ever. Elizabeth Gillies was her effervescent, usual self, the highlight just like always. The only major talking point was another 'new' Crystal - it seems to be a recurring theme with each new season. The continuation from season 2 and introducing these new storylines seem quite appealing, especially the amnesia plotline. It will be very interesting to see how this will affect Fallon and Liam's relationship, and moreover how this will affect Fallon on a much more emotional level.
International fans of Dynasty, however, didn't enjoy the season 3 opener as much. Netflix's original rollout of releasing the episode the day after in areas outside the US has been withdrawn and now the entire new season of Dynasty will be released in May 2020. This was, of course, met with worldwide controversy, considering a large portion of the show's viewership comes internationally, especially in the UK. Many fans on Twitter have already said they will turn to illegal streaming sites to watch new episodes each week. Hopefully, this doesn't have a major knock-on effect for the future of Dynasty.
